Purpose Driven Toastmasters Club is Proud to be a member of District 36!
"Challenge Your Imagination" is the Districts theme for the 2008-2009 Toastmasters year. Every Toastmasters club and member has been challenged to set his or her sight on what is truly important - setting your goals and achieving them! Be "Proud to be a Toastmaster!"
The Purpose Driven Club's slogan "For Everything There Is A Time And Purpose" fits well with this challenge. Each member of Purpose Driven has created an individual speech goal/purpose of their membership for the current Toastmaster year. Their individual goals have been plotted over time to assist the member in charting their progress. Our club is a very supportive and encouraging club. All of our members encourage each other and guide their fellow Toastmasters through their speech journey. Whether it's their first speech, "The Icebreaker" or their 8th speech in an Advanced Manual, every member is a vital part in the success of the club.
THE PURPOSE OF TOASTMASTERS
From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. Over time the nonprofit organization now has nearly 220,000 members in 11,300 clubs in 90 countries, offering a proven and enjoyable! way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.
Most of the Purpose Driven's meetings are comprised of approximately 10-15 people who meet every second and fourth Tuesday during the lunch hour. Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian.
There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.
Good communicators tend to be good leaders. The Purpose Driven Toastmasters Club understands this fact and strives to provide its members with the tools to develop and grow as great communicators and leaders.
